I may come off as a crazy old man to some, but I’m really not.
All the things I’ve said and done; they’re all with me still, here on my shoulders. . . . I carry the path with me. That long way through the woods, has taken me through some of the deepest darkest places of the jungle. If not for that conscious little voice inside warning me . . . Even though the journey felt, at times, like a thick weighty obsidian fog, or that I couldn’t see what was coming at me from all the passing shadows, the voice inside was like a steady beacon reassuring me that I am not alone. Until one day, you see, there was this light upon me when I came to the forest edge. Consciousness expanded then . . . It warmed my face and went deep inside, like the sunshine greeting of old friends. It welcomed me home. . . . And I could finally see what was in front of me for the first time in my life. I was no longer lost in the jungle but at the edge of the forest. The journey was near its end. I found my way out. Not by any map of knowledge but by that little conscious voice inside that kept encouraging me to move forward. My eyes opened . . . The nurses descended on the room. They told me, “Don’t try to speak” as they removed the tubes from my throat. The blips of the heart monitor were in monotoned rhythm and steadfast behind the three nurses and doctor attending me. The IV infusion held reality, and dripped away seconds of time as I drew my first deep breath, “I made it!” ---------------------- About this prose: I felt the need to write something today as it’s been one year to the day since I woke up after having open heart surgery (quadruple bypass operation August 1st, 2025). I’m in great shape, one full year after the surgery. The weight scale at the gym said I’m now 189 lbs. (I like that scale!) I’m almost in peek shape through diet and exercise but also with a strong dose of determination. But the present aside, there are moments that stay with you in life, and I do believe waking up after heart surgery is one that will stay with me for the rest of my life. For my vision has become clearer and more focused despite all the economic and personal setbacks that have accumulated over the year. My mind is so much more focused, that my second novel, Secrets of the Emerald Tablet is now in the production layout phase after a proof read was completed. That means my book is on schedule to be released in September 2026. 😊 So, with a difficult year behind me . . . I’m happy to say that I’ve come out of the woods more determined than ever and I’m already writing the third book of the series. 😉 The goal for the third book is a 2027 release.
